Not the Tech site you are looking for

Not the Tech site you are looking for

Dus… This is not The Tech site you are looking for.

Display recent WordPress Posts links on another WordPress Blog

So you’ve got a lot of Blogs or sites in WordPress and you want to share linksnto posts from one site to the other? With the following script you can Displaynrecent WordPress Posts links on another WordPress Blog!n< !–more –>nI’ve got several blogs! And I don’t like crossposting! But I do like showingnlinks from one blog to the other.

So I do like, crosslinking yes! But there is not a very good sollution tondisplay your wordpress posts on other wordpress blogs.

So I created a small script do do this just for you!

Before you head off to my script there are a few small steps to make beforenyou can use my script.

First you will have to install a plugin on your site callednSnippets. With this plugin youncan add extra functionality to your site.

Installed it? Great! You need some information from your other site (where younwant to display the post links from) to get my script working.

You need the following 4 items from your wp_config.php to get this up andnrunning.

  • DB_NAME
  • DB_USER
  • DB_PASSWORD
  • $table_prefix

You get this information from your wp_config file. It starts at about line 19.nYou’ll need a ftp connection to your server or you can use the plugin WPnConfig File Editornon your site to get this information.

When the two sites are on different servers you also need to fill in the Hostnpart. When on the same server you can leave localhost. But when not… you willnneed to fill in the IP address of the other server.

So create a new snippet within the snippet plugin with the code below. Fill innthe blanks (XXXXXXX) from your wp_config file.

And then you’re all done!

Want to show off some links to posts on the other site?

Just add

[show-postsothersite]

To your post or sidebar / footer widgets.

You can add some extra variables to the outcome, like name (of the site) andnnumber of links to show.

You can add these very easily like:

[show-postsothersite sitename=’vandersluijs.nl’ limit=’10’]

And your all done!

[pastacode lang=”php” path_id=”5e543011b1259e2bc6d4” file=”wordpresslinks.php”nhighlight=”” lines=”” provider=”gist”/]

So wanna see it work? Here you can see some examples of my script working formnthese following wordpress blogs :

  • dezeeuwsefotograaf.nl
  • itheo.nl
  • vandersluijs.nl

[show-postsothersite site=’40enfit’ limit=’5’ sitename=’40 en fit!’]

[show-postsothersite site=’itheo’ limit=’5’ sitename=’iTheo’]

[show-postsothersite site=’dezeeuwsefotograaf’ limit=’5’ sitename=’De ZeeuwsenFotograaf!’]

Crosspost wordpress medium facebook linkedin experiment

Remove yellowish color in photos with Lightroom

Shooting a good picture is not easy. But when you shoot the right photo and afterwards you see a Yellowish or Blue-ish color on top of your photo’s you might ask yourself what you can do to remove this mistake.

I’ve got the solution for you to remove this yellow color from your photo’s.

The process to remove the yellow color is very easy in Lightroom. The wrong color is due a wrong white balance when you take that picture.

Solution remove yellow color with lightroom

Follow the next steps to remove the yellowish color from your photos.

  1. Open Lightroom;
  2. Select the right Photo;
  3. Click on Develop;
  4. Click on the White Balance color picker
  5. Search for a part of the picture that should be white! Like Teeth, a pearl from a necklace, a white flower or anything.
  6. Click with the White Balance Color Picker in the part that should be white.
  7. Ready!

This solution also works with a Blue-ish colorproblem in the photo.

Better MongoDB backup script with Tar and move to S3 Bucket

A few months ago I wrote a article about a MongoDB backup script.

It worked, but after a while it became useless because it kept locking mynMongoDB server. And with that lock it did not open it afterwards so my sitesnjust crashed.n< !–more –>nThis happend because the MongoDb was just to big to handle within a reasonablentime. So I had to write another MongoDB backups script.

This script, creates a backup from any MongoDB database, turns it into a tarnfile and moves it to any Amazon S3 environment.

MongoDB Backups script

The script is pretty straight forward. Just change the [vars] and you cannbackup your MongoDB!

Have fun using it!

The Phoenix Project, it’s like looking in the mirror

So today I started reading “The PhoenixnProject”. It’s A Novel About IT,nDevOps, and Helping Your Business Win.

I’ve got it from Kim Gene how gave it to me fornfree. I had some other books to read first… and it was laying on the bookshelfnfor a couple of months.n< !–more –>nToday I walked by that self… and saw the book! I thought…. you know what…..nit’s time to start reading this book.

And boy oh boy…. is this book like a mirror!
nI have not finished it yet! I’m only on like page 70 or so….. but what I’venread until now is like my own life! Not to the detail (that would be reallynscary) no, but I recognise the story, the setting and the problems.

Yes.. I’m an IT Manager… and yes I’ve got the same problems. Don’t get menwrong, my problems are not as big as in this book. But they look alike. Thencompany I work for isn’t that big and it’s a great company but we have thensame sort of issue’s.

So what’s the book about?

Bill is an IT manager at Parts Unlimited. It’s Tuesday morning and on hisndrive into the office, Bill gets a call from the CEO.

The company’s new IT initiative, code named Phoenix Project, is critical tonthe future of Parts Unlimited, but the project is massively over budget andnvery late. The CEO wants Bill to report directly to him and fix the mess innninety days or else Bill’s entire department will be outsourced.

With the help of a prospective board member and his mysterious philosophy ofnThe Three Ways, Bill starts to see that IT work has more in common withnmanufacturing plant work than he ever imagined. With the clock ticking, Billnmust organize work flow streamline interdepartmental communications, andneffectively serve the other business functions at Parts Unlimited.

n In a fast-paced and entertaining style, three luminaries of the DevOpsnmovement deliver a story that anyone who works in IT will recognize. Readersnwill not only learn how to improve their own IT organizations, they’ll nevernview IT the same way again.

Although I didn’t learn anything new yet! I’m very anxious to read this booknto the end in a few days.

If you are an IT Manager, a Lead Developer, a team lead or Scrum Master… Inrecon you should start reading this book!

I’ll let you know when I finished…. I’ll guess it’s gonna be part of mynchanging the company plan.
